The Legends Tour Announces a New Event for 2008,
the Horseshoe Bend Invitational
The Legends Tour, Official Senior Tour of the LPGA, announces an addition to its 2008 calendar with the Horseshoe Bend Invitational. Twenty Legends of the LPGA will tee it up at The Golf Course on Turkey Mountain September 28-29 for a one-day charity pro-am, bringing LPGA Legends to the state for the first time ever, and marking only the second event featuring the LPGA in Arkansas in over 50 years. Children's Hospital of Little Rock is the benefactor to this exciting addition to the north central Arkansas community.
In addition to the pro-am, a one-day community clinic will be held at the course showcasing the swings of various Legends Tour professionals.
PGA Golf Professional Chuck McNeight is thrilled to bring the Legends Tour to Turkey Mountain, a picturesque golf course in north central Arkansas with dramatic elevation changes and plenty of challenges. "We are really looking forward to hosting an event of this caliber in our city," enthused McNeight.
Bob Barnes, Mayor of Horseshoe Bend, agrees. On December 14, 2007, he and McNeight played in the Handa Cup Pro-Am with Legends Tour star and LPGA Hall of Famer Pat Bradley in St. Augustine, Florida.
"She was so much fun," said Barnes. "And of course, played a wonderful game of golf."
Horseshoe Bend is one of the fastest growing retirement communities in the U.S., nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. Legends Tour President and former LPGA standout Jane Blalock sees it as a good fit for a pro-am that could grow into an official tournament stop in subsequent years.
"We have a fan base in that region who would enjoy the opportunity to see Legends of the LPGA come through and tackle their local course," said Blalock. "We are encouraged by the commitment of local supporters and excited to build and grow a viable event in their neck of the woods."
The Legends Pro-Am will be the culminating event of a community weekend in Horseshoe Bend. Activities designed for families and area residents will fill the last weekend of September with the Legends Pro-Am finale on Monday. Community members have a unique opportunity to show their support of The Legends Tour and their community all weekend long.
